CEO/Executive Director Experience

Paul Nagel has been with the Bicycle Tree since our inception in 2004, our first workshop in 2006, the establishment of our first brick-and-mortar facility in 2014, through to the present day. During the first ten years of doing the work of the Bicycle Tree and growing its roots and branches as a volunteer, Paul worked in a variety of positions that provided experience and skills that he brings to our operations. Paul worked in bike shops, picture framing, other retail, kitchens, food service management, and as an artist/illustrator, developing abilities with customer service, bike repair, Spanish language, retail display, inventory management, scheduling, graphic design, workflow tracking, and a number of skills relevant to our operations. Additionally, Paul has grown along with the Bicycle Tree as our operations have expanded and intensified. Paul has been centrally engaged with nearly all aspects of the organization since its inception, including but not limited to: • Volunteer recruitment and coordination • Organizational metrics, financial documentation, budgeting, development, and inventory management • Event planning, including food service, silent auction, reservations, promotion, and logistics • Graphic design for logo, t-shirts, flyers, banners, documents, website design, and more • Public engagement, including newsletters, social media, and event outreach • Mission, vision, and values for the organization; strategic planning • Shop design and construction • Teaching thousands of people about bike repair and practical cycling knowledge • Repairing thousands of bicycles • Paul is a League of American Bicyclists League Certified Instructor and has taught many classes in bike safety. Over the years, Paul has attended a variety of workshops, seminars, and conferences pertaining to nonprofit management, community engagement, bicycle advocacy, community bike shop coordination, and grantseeking.
