Airport Settlement Agreement
In 2030, the l985 JWA Settlement Agreement sunsets. SPON, the City of Newport Beach, and the Airport Working Group (all original signers of the Agreement) will soon begin gearing up for re-negotiation of this Agreement.
We hope to maintain the current curfew on commercial flights, passenger cap, and to include similar requirements on general aviation. Certainly preventing expansion of the airport and/or runway capacity will be a critical accomplishment in this process.
The Newport Beach Land Trust
Together with two developers, SPON has established the Newport Beach Land Trust [a 501(c)(3)]. This Trust will be operated by a Board and will oversee the distribution of funds to individuals who work in the City, yet cannot afford to live in the City, for the purchase of affordable housing.
To provide a means for members of the work force like teachers, fire, police, nursing, etc., affordable housing within the City of Newport Beach.
Education and Outreach
SPON has as an annual goal to provide a series of educational programs that keep members, as well as the community, informed about and aware of topics that have a direct effect on quality of life issues within our City. To that end, we hold four general membership meetings a year with each meeting focusing on a particular and current topic of interest. SPON publishes a monthly newsletter that is distributed electronically. SPON maintains a presence on social media, and frequently sends an e-mail blast to he community.
A well-informed audience of recipients.
