The Cambodian Family

The mission of The Cambodian Family is to provide opportunities for refugee and immigrant families to develop the knowledge, skills, and desires for creating better health and well-being in their lives.

We are a grassroots, non-profit community-based organization, helping refugees and immigrants become socially healthy by improving their lives and their community.

The Cambodian Family empowers children, youth, adults, and older adults to achieve educational success, economic mobility, health, and civic engagement. Through culturally and linguistically responsive programs, the organization helps individuals and families overcome barriers to opportunity while strengthening leadership and community connections. By fostering self-sufficiency, preserving cultural identity, and advocating for equitable access to resources, The Cambodian Family creates lasting, multigenerational impact that enables communities to thrive. Our current programs/services include: community health & mental health, cancer outreach and education, youth development, early intervention services for older adults, benefits enrollment, cultural preservation, family & children support, housing navigation, substance use disorder prevention (SUD), and civic engagement. In FY2025, TCF reached over 70,000 community members and provided approximately 30,500 direct services to more than 9,000 clients.

Many Cambodian and other refugee and immigrant families continue to face significant barriers to educational achievement, economic mobility, health care access, and civic participation. These challenges are rooted in the lasting effects of displacement and trauma, language barriers, limited access to culturally and linguistically appropriate services, and persistent socioeconomic inequities. Many families experience financial insecurity, limited digital literacy, and difficulty navigating complex systems such as education, healthcare, and public benefits, leaving them at greater risk of poor health outcomes and reduced economic opportunity.

Children and youth often require additional academic support, mentoring, and college and career guidance to overcome educational disparities, while adults and older adults frequently need workforce development, English language instruction, health education, and assistance accessing critical services. Without trusted community-based organizations that understand their cultural and linguistic needs, many individuals remain disconnected from resources that promote long-term stability and well-being.

The Cambodian Family addresses these gaps by providing comprehensive, culturally responsive programs that empower individuals and families to build knowledge, skills, and self-sufficiency. By delivering integrated services that support education, workforce development, health, family stability, and civic engagement, the organization helps participants overcome systemic barriers and create pathways toward lasting economic security and community leadership. Continued investment in these services is essential to meeting the growing needs of refugee and immigrant communities and advancing equitable opportunities for future generations.

- An investment of $120,000 per year to provide mental health prevention and early intervention services to monolingual community members and older adult (60+)
- An investment of $180,000 per year to provide health and mental health care navigation services and benefits enrollment services (i.e., MediCal, CalFresh, CalWorks, etc.)
- An investment of $120,000 per year to build immigrant/limited-English-proficient residents' leadership capacity and advocacy skills to become advocates for changes in their community
- An investment of $250,000 for capital improvement to update our community center space and enhance facilities and equipment which will allow us to improve the delivery, quality, and efficiency of our programs and services provided at our community center

The Cambodian Family serves individuals and families throughout Orange County, California, with a primary focus on communities that experience significant socioeconomic and health disparities. Services are concentrated in Anaheim, Santa Ana, Garden Grove, Westminster, Midway City, Stanton, and surrounding cities, where large Cambodian, Southeast Asian, refugee, immigrant, and low-income populations reside.

While rooted in the Cambodian community, The Cambodian Family's programs are inclusive and serve individuals from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, including other Southeast Asian, refugee, immigrant, and underserved populations. Through community-based service sites, partnerships with schools, healthcare providers, local governments, and nonprofit organizations, The Cambodian Family ensures that culturally and linguistically responsive services are accessible to residents across Orange County.

The organization continues to expand its outreach to underserved neighborhoods where barriers such as language access, transportation, economic hardship, and limited awareness of available resources contribute to inequitable access to education, health, workforce development, and family support services.

For more than 46 years, The Cambodian Family has stood alongside refugee, immigrant, and underserved families as they overcome barriers, heal from trauma, and build brighter futures.
