The Parkinson’s Development Center Project

There is no single facility in Orange County, California where people with Parkinson’s can go to partake in all the recommended exercise modalities, therapy activities, and support groups that help improve their quality of life. To fill this need, the Donna Clervi Foundation is committed to building a Parkinson’s Development Center in Orange County, California dedicated to people with Parkinson’s, their families, and their support systems. The Center will offer holistic support to enhance the physical, social, and emotional journeys of our Parkinson’s community. By creating a Center focused solely on Parkinson’s disease, we can help combat the unique needs of people with Parkinson’s and their caregivers. The Center will enable us to directly address the disease symptoms with specific targeted therapies, which have proven to slow progression and improve quality of life. Additionally, the Center will create a space of belonging where a community of like-minded fighters with similar experience gather to help each other maintain the emotional and mental health necessary to fight Parkinson’s from the inside out. There are three key components to bringing the Parkinson’s Development Center to life: • The Space: Finding and securing a location is critical to our efforts. This space will not only be a fitness center but will house other therapies to support people with Parkinson’s. • The Design: The vision for the Center’s overall design is to create the feeling of a second home to our fighters. It will not only a place to fight back against this disease, but a place to connect with friends, meet new people who understand and relate to what they are experiencing, relax and socialize. Our ultimate goal is to create THE place for exercise, therapeutic activity, and fun. • The Right Equipment: Filling the space with the right tools and equipment to support various Parkinson’s support programs will be crucial to our members’ success. Creating a safe and result-driven environment is our top priority. This space will be multi-functional, accommodating exercise, educational programs and social events. The Center will be home to our primary method for fighting the disease: Rock Steady Boxing, a high intensity boxing inspired fitness program. In addition, we will offer various forms of programs, including, speech, singing, dance, massage, art, yoga, Tai Chi, nutrition, micrographia, support groups, on-going Parkinson’s specific education, and more.
