PROGRAMS

Vera's Sanctuary for Women

Vera's Sanctuary is dedicated to serving girls and young women who are victims of human trafficking.  The secure site is the Boys Town legacy property and sits on a private road atop a hillside with views to the ocean.  Our facilities consist of five six-bedroom homes with 26-beds that serve distinct purposes. Vera’s Sanctuary is the only licensed residential drug treatment site in Orange County dedicated to victims of human trafficking. We provide drug treatment, therapeutic services and vocational services to foster youth and young women ages 15-24 who lack family support and have been victims of trafficking. Vera’s Sanctuary is a picturesque remote site surrounded by wildlife, nature and beauty--a wonderful place to heal from trauma and abuse. The young women residing with us receive everything they need to get their lives back on track from intensive therapy to high school tutoring and vocational education to job training, internships, and a plan for transition including automobile matching and savings plans and ongoing case management and outpatient treatment for as long as needed. While living with us the young women will also participate in our culinary program which includes sustainable gardens and cooking, as well as our health and wellness program which includes yoga and meditation. Our goal is a transformation experience that leaves the young women in a healing state that sets their life back on track for good. All young women successfully graduating will be set with a full time job, housing and social supports.

Sober College Housing Program.

The Teen Project's first program, the Sober College House is six bed home that provides shelter, counseling and school support to young women aging out of foster care and enrolled full time in higher education or vocational training. The Teen Project Sober College Housing program opened in 2010 and provides transitional age youth women (ages 18-24) with all of the support necessary to complete college or trade school and go on to a life sustaining career. The Teen Project College Home is a 12-step based program that provides housing, food, college scholarships, private rooms, future and auto savings programs, over 100 independent living classes. The youth living in our home have pursued careers in the medical and legal fields, fashion design, cosmetology, machining and more. We are a two year program with an extensive alumni and sustained support program for young ladies pursuing a longer education path. There is a live-in house mom that oversees the girls and provides transportation. The girls living in the home are provided with extensive support in exchange for a very responsible life. They have curfews and a strict rule for sobriety and education success. We have supported dozens of young women who were interested in recreating their lives. Our first resident will be a doctor in just a few short years.
