Mission Statement

Assistance League of Capistrano Valley engages and empowers volunteers to strengthen our communities.

Background Statement

The Assistance League of Capistrano Valley is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been serving the community for over 40 years. Member volunteers are dedicated to ongoing support and a long-term presence in the community through hands-on involvement and innovative philanthropic programs.

Founded in 1977, our member volunteers support children in the Capistrano Unified School District in south Orange County. In a joint program with other local Assistance League chapters, we also support families serving at Camp Pendleton Marine Base. Our organization provides many volunteer opportunities to serve the communities of Dana Point, Laguna Niguel, Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano.

Members manage and staff the Bargain Box Thrift Store in San Clemente, which is our primary source of revenue. Our philanthropic programs include back to school clothing for Capistrano Valley students, grants to middle school educators and two scholarship programs. Our Assisteens® auxiliary help support our efforts in the community.

Impact Statement

Our annual return to local in-need children is between $100,000 and $200,000.

Needs Statement

There are many ways the community can support the Assistance League of Capistrano Valley. Our primary source of revenue is our Bargain Box Thrift Store in San Clemente, which relies on donations and shoppers. New members are needed and always welcome to staff the store and work at program events.

We hold one main fundraiser each year and are always seeking donations from local businesses and places of interest. Our Partners page on our website acknowledges donors and supporters of our fundraisers.  Online donations are welcome on our website.

The chapter also evaluates its philanthropies each year and how they line up with the needs in our community.

Statement from the CEO/Executive Director

The Assistance League of Capistrano Valley is a chartered member of the National Assistance League. We serve the Capistrano Unified School District area of Southern Orange County. Last year our volunteers worked more than 22,000 service hours and we served about 14,000 needy children in the Capistrano Unified School District and assisted over 2,000 children of military families.

Statement from the Board Chair/President

Our chapter is made up of wonderful, successful women who want to support their community by giving of their time and energy by helping the local children of Marine families and local school children in need.  This past year in our INSPIRE program, in which we gave $24,000 in scholarships to brave women who left abusive relationships to go back to college to further their education so that their children will have a better life. Our challenge at this time is finding other giving, caring women who have 10 hours a month to give back.  We live in  a world where people are sometimes too busy working to support themselves and their families to take time out to help others,  but our organization can help those with little time find a way to do something to help others. We all work together and when we work together great things happen.   We are in need of the younger women, those in their 40s and 50s, who know technology firsthand.
