PROGRAMS

Operation School Bell

Operation School Bell (OSB) is our signature philanthropy. Working with the schools in the Capistrano Unified School District, we provide new school clothing for children in need. Over a period of two weeks in the fall, students and their families chose school clothing from a local store. Our volunteers register the families and tally the clothing. We support elementary, middle school and high school students.

Budget
$65,000
Outcomes

Our chapter has been running this program for decades and it is welcomed by the schools that we serve. We are confident in the success of this program as we hear from school counselors that the children who receive new clothing are happier in school and we believe that this results from increased self-esteem.

I.N.S.P.I.R.E.

I.N.S.P.I.R.E. (Independence for Needy Single Parents Instilled via a Responsible Education) scholarship.  This program provides scholarships to local single parent students enrolled in the CalWORKS program at Saddleback College.

Budget
$10,000
Outcomes

The purpose of this program is to help those students who have gone through domestic violence and are trying to start a new life by attending classes to receive a degree and provide a better life for their children. These students must be part of the CalWorks program, that monitors their dedication to getting their advanced degrees. These students must maintain attendance and grades to qualify to stay in the program. Getting monetary support from the ALCV chapter helps these students as they balance raising their children, maintaining a job, and successfully finishing their academic requirements.

Links to Learning

Since 2000, over 83,751 middle school students have benefited from numerous grants totaling over $570,000. Middle school teachers in the Capistrano Unified School District write grants that support innovative programs, experiences, and materials in their classrooms. All grants align with the district's curricular goals but give the students hands on experiences and innovative materials to use. Assistance League of Capistrano Valley has a team of members who distribute information about the Links to Learning program to each of the 13 middle schools in the district and who also evaluate the grants and allocate the funds to the recipients.

Budget
$35,000
Outcomes

Year after year, an abundance of middle school teachers apply for these grants. They are the teachers who want to go above and beyond the provided curriculum and to provide enriching experiences to their students. We feel that each year our support of these teachers makes a lasting effect of the students.

Chapters for Children

In conjunction with other area chapters, we provide back-to-school clothing for children to active Marine and Navy families on Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base.

Budget
$20,000
Outcomes

This is an ongoing program that provides clothing to the children of Marine and Navy families at Camp Pendleton.  As long as there are enlisted Marines and Sailors our program will be successful.

Igniting Potential & Scholarships for High School Scholarships

Our Igniting Potential philanthropy provides financial and hands-on support to San Clemente and San Juan Hills High School AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) students. The AVID program places motivated students in a rigorous curriculum while providing academic and emotional support. Our high school scholarships align with the Igniting Potential program by awarding scholarships to in-need AVID high school students.

Budget
$30,000
Outcomes

Erin Dollar, San Clemente High School AVID Program Director, shared “The generosity of ALCV has enabled us to schedule three college field trips, a community builder trip, funding for two staff members to attend AVID summer training, as well as pay for each of our AVID juniors to take the SAT on campus. This is what ‘closing the opportunity gap’ looks like and will be instrumental in bridging the gap for these students to see that college and career opportunities are in fact attainable.
