Glennwood House of Laguna Beach
Glennwood House of Laguna Beach, (GHLB) is a 44-room campus in Laguna Beach that became the home for 45 adults with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities. The apartment campus is located on a 30,000 square foot site with views of the Pacific Ocean, with full dining and multi-media communal areas, organic garden, small gym, and outdoor courtyard gathering areas. For many of these remarkable men and women, this represents their first opportunity to fully realize personal growth as an adult. With the support of 30 Staff, Residents receive support and encouragement to take steps towards independent living. They have the opportunity to develop skills including self-care, grocery shopping, money management, apartment house keeping, and socialization within a diverse community. Residents attend local colleges, work in a variety of local organizations and/or attend programs designed to further their self confidence and social and life skills.
The Glennwood Housing Foundation, Inc. (GHF) is addressing the growing need for affordable housing for people with developmental disabilities. Secure living arrangements are critical to the physical and mental health of individuals already facing the challenges of living with a developmental disability. GHF will continue to seek properties in communities open to addressing this need and partnering in development. GHF wants to provide the highest quality services and environments so that these individuals can live their lives to their full potential. The State of California Housing and Human Services committee has stated that the Glennwood model is the future of affordable housing and support services for persons with special needs and provided a link to GHF on their website. Glennwood Housing Foundation is one of only two HUD Housing approved agencies in Laguna Beach. Glennwood Housing Foundation is committed to assisting other interested providers of programs for special needs adults and to provided staff and leadership training for developing programs. Glennwood continues to develop partnerships that will offer options for Residents in their search for meaningful employment and success in reaching their personal goals. Glennwood has a waiting list and rarely has turnover unless for a move out of state by the family or a medical condition requiring additional care. Glennwood Residents, in coordination with their Supportive Living Coordinator and their Regional Center of Orange County Coordinator meet quarterly to review personal goals leading to independence and establish an individualized service plan. All Residents fully participate in this program.
