OUR STORY

California cities face a critical housing crisis. Jamboree is a nonprofit affordable housing developer with proven solutions that transform an entire community for the long-term.

We develop award-winning affordable housing across California, from San Diego to Sacramento, with signature resident services that benefit the entire neighborhood. From renovation to new construction, Jamboree delivers inclusionary, sustainable, supportive, and transit-oriented housing that’s a city asset where seniors, working families, and those who’ve experienced homelessness thrive in their own community.

With a collaborative focus, we bring together a nexus of municipal, financial, development, and community partners to create affordable housing that’s a platform for lasting change.

Mission Statement

Jamboree’s mission is to deliver high quality affordable housing and services that transform lives and strengthen communities.

Background Statement

Founded in 1990 to expand housing opportunities for low-income families and seniors in Irvine, Jamboree has experienced steady growth throughout California. With a portfolio of more than 11,000 units, Jamboree provides homes for than 24,000 California residents across 110 communities.

Impact Statement

Jamboree embraces the principle that the development of quality affordable housing is only the first phase of a long-term partnership with stakeholders and the communities in which we develop properties. The stability and long-term success of the larger community is made possible through the impact of resident programs and community resources. In 2004, Jamboree started an in-house Resident Services Group – one of the industry’s first – that fosters learning, healthy living, and community building for residents through onsite educational and social programs and services tailored to residents’ needs. Our portfolio of housing communities now includes comprehensive supportive services for populations such as veterans, individuals experiencing chronic homelessness, working families, residents with special needs, seniors who are aging in place, adults living with mental illness, and families who were previously homeless or at-risk of homelessness.

Needs Statement

Orange County is the 6th most expensive urban area in the United States (Council for Community and Economic Research’s Cost of Living Index, Quarter 3, 2024). According to the 2024-2025 Orange County Community Indicators Report, the hourly wage required to afford a one-bedroom apartment rose 11% over the last year to reach $45.08 in 2024. Orange County residents earning minimum wage would need to work 113 hours per week to afford rent. Further, 94% of renter-occupied households in Orange County making less than $35,000 per year spend at least 30 percent of their income on housing, compared to just 29 percent of residents making $75,000 or more. Across the county, 129,693 low-income households do not have access to affordable homes due to an affordable housing shortfall (California Housing Partnership, Affordable Housing Needs Report 2024).
