Mission Statement

To improve the care and quality of life for children with cancer by providing financial and emotional support to the family. To create a community where no family faces the financial and emotional burdens of childhood cancer alone.

Background Statement

Megan’s Wings was established in January 2005 by the Savage Family in loving memory of their daughter, Megan, who lost her battle with ALL Leukemia in April 2003. Megan’s Wings exists to help pediatric cancer families navigate through their journey with childhood cancer. Because we’ve been there, we understand what families go through. Megan’s Wings is a non-profit 501c3 charity assisting families throughout Southern California. We started assisting families through one hospital and now serve approximately 300 families yearly through ten Children’s Hospitals and Cancer Centers. We are volunteer based and offer several financial aid and support service programs to help local families who struggle to work and pay the bills during their child's treatment with cancer. Our funding comes from corporate sponsorships and grants, individual contributions and fundraising events.

Impact Statement

Last year, Megan’s Wings provided care packages and aid program relief to over 600 patients. Importantly, we distributed $213,000 in critical financial aid to 238 pediatric families facing housing, food or transportation insecurities.

Needs Statement

This year, we aim to extend housing support from one month to two, providing families with greater stability and security during their child's medical crisis. Extended support helps families focus on their child's health without the fear of losing their home.
Last year, 144 families received 4 months of gas card assistance through our Gas Program, helping ease transportation costs for children with weekly treatment far from home. We are extending gas card assistance from four to six months to better meet this growing need.

Geographic Areas Served

We work directly with clinical social workers and serve pediatric patients receiving treatment at a Southern California Hospital who reside in Orange County, LA County orr San Bernardino County.

Top Three Populations Served
  • Latinos
  • African Americans
  • Children ages 0-5
Statement from the CEO/Executive Director

Megan's Wings was started in 2005 after losing our daughter, Megan to Leukemia. We will forever be grateful to our army of supporters who lifted us up during Megan's darkest days. I was unable to work the last year of Megan's life as she spent more days in the hospital then out. We knew we could never repay the support given to us, but we could pay it forward and help other families while keeping Megan's legacy alive. Our goal then and still is today, to help families with limited resources survive childhood cancer. We believe no family should face the financial and emotional burdens of childhood cancer alone. We have continued our efforts for nearly 20 years, because the need for support in this area continues to grow. We believe no family should risk losing their home or ability to get their child to lifesaving treatment when medical needs interfere with a parents ability to work. Megan's Wings gives hope to desperate families trying to save their child's life. By providing emergency support to a hurting family, we help meet basic needs that make room for healing and give children the best chance at treatment success.
