Background Statement

t was a hot and humid July afternoon in 1999. We were traveling through the largely untouched far western flatlands of Nepal, and were stopped at an army checkpoint where it is typical to see armed Nepali military personnel. As we waited to be excused, a young girl approached our car carrying a basket of lemons on her head. Her unkempt hair laced the shoulders of her worn and filthy blouse with missing buttons. Her skirt, caked with mud and covered with stains, hung loosely about her thin frame. Her feet were filthy, from what was probably a long, hot walk along the dusty roads leading to the main highway. She approached our car and asked if we would purchase the fruit for change. I felt compelled to have our contact ask her if I could pay her for her picture instead. Upon this request, she lit up. At that moment, it seemed that time stopped, and that the glory of God was shining through the smile of this child.

As we drove away, I was left to ponder…can a simple show of love change a child’s life? Can love bring hope? I remembered the words of Jesus in Matthew 19:14, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” I knew at that moment that my heart was being pulled toward children in third-world countries. I knew that bringing children to Christ would be bringing them to love, hope, and a future as a Promise Child. It is my hope that God would stir in your heart a desire to partner with us in shining God’s glory through Promise Child.

Impact Statement

Promise Child reaches out to children and their families at 15 different locations in Uganda. Out of the 1,173 children it sponsors in five nations 47%, or 560 children, are in Uganda alone. Promise Child serves these children through the work of native field workers and overseas missionaries. To maintain accountability to its donors, the Promise Child leadership team travels to each of the Promise Child countries as often as possible to disciple the staff and volunteers in scripture and relief efforts.
Within Uganda, Promise Child oversees three significant and interrelated programs: 1) Emergency relief and Christian ministry at Camp Bidi Bidi, the second largest refugee camp in the world; 2) Monthly sponsorships that link needy children in Uganda to specific donors in the United States; and 3) House of Hope, a shelter and school for child and adult victims of sex trafficking which is located in the city of Arua, Uganda.

Needs Statement

Promise Child is active in five countries: Haiti, India, Nepal, South Sudan, and Uganda. The most painful situations we have ever witnessed among children are those that exist in sub-Saharan Africa. Uganda is known as the “pearl of Africa” for its remarkable beauty. Nevertheless, with a high rate of poverty and one of the youngest and fastest-growing populations in the world, it is a terrible place for children.

Geographic Areas Served

Promise Child has active monthly children receiving monthly sponsorships in Haiti, India, Nepal, South Sudan and Uganda. In addition, children in the United States receive provisions such as summer camps, relief after disasters, and feeding programs for the food insecure.

Top Three Populations Served
  • Immigrants and Refugees
  • Farm workers
  • Children ages 0-5
Statement from the CEO/Executive Director

Child Sponsorship allows children the opportunity of a new life and hope they would otherwise never have. Sponsorship provides each child with food, education, medical attention, and hope knowing that someone cares for them and that Jesus loves them.

100% of all sponsorship funds go directly to covering the needs of the child sponsored. - Pastor Brent Kaser
