OUR STORY

To nourish the wellness, purpose, and dignity of older adults and their families in our community.

Mission Statement

To nourish the wellness, purpose, and dignity of older adults and their families in our community.

Background Statement

For over 58 years, Meals on Wheels Orange County has been the catalyst behind the development of a multitude of services and programs that serve seniors in need in central and north Orange County. Today, Meals on Wheels OC supports older adults with the following services: Home-delivered meals and case management (Meals on Wheels), congregate meals (Lunch Café), Adult Day Care (social model, located in the Buena Park Senior Center), and Adult Day Health Care Center (Anaheim). In addition, we have Care Coordination services to help reduce hospital admissions and readmissions for older adults and a Friendly Caller/Visitor program to dispense cheer and companionship to lessen the isolation many seniors face.

Impact Statement

Since 1967, Community SeniorServ Inc., dba Meals on Wheels Orange County has been at the forefront of creating programs and services that reduce hunger and improve the wellness of at-risk older adults by empowering them to live with independence in the homes and communities they love. At the core of Meals on Wheels OC's programs are our Meals on Wheels program and Case Management Services for homebound older adults, Lunch Café and socialization and Adult Day Health Care. With revenue of $21+ million, we are the largest nutrition and aging services provider in Orange County, serving nearly 1 million meals to nearly 8,500 food-insecure seniors annually.

Needs Statement

1. We need sustainable funding sources to meet the impending rise in the numbers of seniors in need.

2. We need a continuous flow of dedicated volunteers to deliver and serve meals, and visit seniors.

3. We need the continuation of collaborative work with community members and organizations to strengthen the effect and reach of our programs.

4. We need to continue advocating and to gain help from others to advocate on behalf of older adults in order to inform city, state and federal officials about the importance of senior nutrition to maintaining and improving senior health.

5. We need a collaborative Speakers’ Bureau that includes senior nutrition as a health issue to inform the public of the importance of senior meals programs provided by Meals on Wheels Orange County.

Statement from the CEO/Executive Director

Meals on Wheels Orange County is proud to celebrate more than 58 years of programs and services that reduce hunger and loneliness for at-risk seniors. Although a lot has changed since our humble beginnings in 1967, one thing that has remained is our commitment to helping older adults stay in their homes, preserve their dignity, and maintain their independence. With your support, we are able to make a meaningful impact in serving vulnerable seniors with dignity and respect, addressing their needs wherever they may be in their journey of care. Whether through nutritious meals served at local senior centers, offering companionship and activities at our Adult Day Centers, or delivering meals, comfort, and friendship to homebound seniors, we are steadfast in our commitment to ensuring they receive friendship, joy, nutrition, and the dignity they deserve. Because of the generous support from people like you, we continue to touch the lives of so many older adults in our community. Your support conveys to them that they are not alone. Together, we're bringing dignity and support! We serve more than 624,000 meals to nearly 1,160 hungry, lonely, homebound seniors, 214,900 nutritious lunches to 7,200 older adults in 26 senior centers, approximately 153 clients in our Adult Day Services programs, giving them the opportunity to socialize and receive care and nutritious meals outside the home, while providing much-needed time off to their family caregivers. We also served 120 clients with coordinated care and support, lowering hospitalizations and improving quality of life and independence. In addition, 550 volunteers spent 44,416.75 hours delivering meals and providing caring, supportive visits to at-risk seniors. Each and every day, we meet practical needs and redefine reality for thousands of seniors. Because of donors, volunteers, advocates, and supporters like you, we were able to provide nourishment in the form of nearly 1 million meals and nurture approximately 8,500 seniors this past year. As the population of Orange County seniors continues to increase and the challenge to meet their needs becomes greater, your partnership is increasingly vital. Thank you for your caring generosity. Together we can achieve our vision to honor life and our mission to nourish wellness, purpose, and dignity for seniors and their families!
