Educating Educators
This program seeks to equip Orange County-based, K-12 educators of color with the support, tools, and capacity building to STAY in the profession, GROW their skills, and LEAD their communities. STAY: For educators of color - especially those who are the first in their family to receive a college degree - difficulties navigating the profession's "unwritten curriculum" leads to a high attrition rate. In response, this program looks to bolster educator retention through community building among likeminded peers. We believe that the support of a values-aligned professional network will reduce educator stress, isolation, and burnout. GROW: Within this network, equity-centered tools (eg lesson plans) will be shared and professional development workshops hosted for educators wanting to grow their toolkits to cultivate belonging, well-being, and joy in their teaching. LEAD: For educators looking to level-up their impact, this program will also identify and support pathways for educators of color to take on school- and district-level leadership positions.
For K-12 educators of color in Orange County, program outcomes include reducing the percentage of attrition from the profession; a higher sense of preparedness to cultivate classroom communities; and greater representation in school- and district-level leadership positions.
Community Education
In support of our youth, this program engages and educates parents, caretakers, and other important adults to learn about their own community histories, experience firsthand the transformational impact of ethnic studies content and pedagogy, and learn about opportunities to advocate for our young people.
Strengthened intergenerational relationships and greater parental support for ethnic studies
