Mosiac Movement: Empathy Dancing Across Generations to End Isolation & Loneliness

In classrooms, students rise as leaders — SoulRaphians — learning that empathy is not a concept, but a practice. In senior communities, residents rediscover joy as participants, not spectators. Because when we move together, we remember something essential: we belong to each other. This is the Mosaic Movement. This is how we bring empathy to life. The initiative benefits not only through its direct participants but by building an evidence base in Year 1, we contribute to the county's understanding of what works — and what is feasible — when addressing senior isolation and youth disconnection together. Ultimately, success means proving that structured, intergenerational engagement—grounded in empathy and movement—can serve as a viable, scalable intervention for social isolation.

Budget
$500,000
Outcomes

Year 1 will reach 3–5 high schools and 3–5 senior care communities, engaging 100–150 students and 150–250 older adults. Key metrics include reduced loneliness, increased senior participation and mood, and measurable gains in student empathy and healthcare career interest. Progress will be tracked through retention rates, repeat engagement, and program fidelity utilizing validated measurement tools e.g. UCLA loneliness scale and TEQ Empathy Index.
